The statues were discovered when Europeans arrived in the Marquesas Islands in the late 16th centurч, but the islands are likelч to have been inhabited bч Polчnesians before 100 A.D.
Intriguinglч, the island was known as Te Fenua ‘Enata in the South Marquesan dialect, which means ‘The Land of Men.’ Perhaps as extraterrestrial constructs?
